Summer Solstice (June 21) marked the day of the Dog Meat Festival in Yulin, China. Residents have begun killing and eating the dogs early to avoid protests by animal right activists.  They say that dogs are part of the daily habit there. The number of dogs that are killed during the festival each year is estimated to be 10,000. Some activists spend their own money to rescue the dogs. They also claim that the dogs did not undergo any quarantine and may be a risk to human consumption. The dogs that were killed during the festival were stray dogs and some of them were stolen from dog owners. Some dogs still have their collars and name tags on them. I say no to dog eating and this should be stopped. The DuoDuo Animal Welfare is one animal activist group in China that aims in stopping this practice. Thanks to them some dogs were saved from the festival.
